Three Years Ago Today - The Mask Lawsuit that Freed the Children

Three years ago, on the frigid, blizzard-swept night of February 4, 2022, parents and concerned citizens defied both the elements and an overreaching school board to reclaim their rights. The Walled Lake Citizens for Parental Rights delivered a devastating legal Demand Letter, putting the district on notice: the unconstitutional, harmful, and illegal mask mandates had to go.

Parents Cheer the Demand Letter

The Walled Lake School Board was not prepared. As parents flooded the board meeting, their voices rising in unified defiance, the masked bureaucrats sat frozen in stunned silence. They had grown accustomed to issuing decrees from behind their desks, expecting unquestioning obedience. But this time, they faced a reckoning.

A Moment of Resistance that Changed Michigan

For months, parents had endured the abuse of power. The so-called “health experts” dictated that children—our most vulnerable—should be forced to wear masks for hours a day, despite mounting evidence that such mandates had no measurable benefit in stopping COVID-19 transmission in schools. Worse, the mandates harmed children’s development, learning, and mental health—a reality parents saw firsthand, even as officials dismissed their concerns.

But February 4, 2022, marked the turning point. Despite the white-out conditions, a massive crowd packed the board meeting, sending an unmistakable message: we do not comply with tyranny. The board members, hiding behind their masks both literally and figuratively, could do nothing but sit in shock. They were confronted with the undeniable power of an organized and fearless parental movement.

With the assistance of world class attorney Erick Kaardal of the MKE Law firm out of Minnesota and funded by the Thomas More Society out of Chicago, parents finally had the resources to fight back!

Within one week, the Walled Lake School District folded, quietly dropping the mask mandate. But the impact of the Mask Lawsuit didn’t stop there. Oakland County Schools and Counties across Michigan followed suit, abandoning their own unlawful mandates. The victory in Walled Lake set off a chain reaction, forcing school districts and health departments to finally acknowledge the limits of their authority.

A Warning to Those Who Try to Rule Over Parents

This victory was not just about masks. It was a historic moment of parental defiance against government overreach in education. It was a reminder that parents, not bureaucrats, have the final say over their children’s well-being. And it proved that when parents stand together, they win.

The Walled Lake Citizens for Parental Rights stood up, took on the system, and won—not just for their children, but for every child in Michigan.

Let this be a lesson: whenever tyranny rears its head, parents will rise up and crush it.
